DJI Matrice 5TD: A Thermal Professional Drone Designed for Automated Operations

The DJI Matrice 5TD is a professional drone designed for surveillance, public safety, inspection, and remote verification missions. Compatible with the DJI Dock 4 automated docking station, it enables remote operations and repeatable missions with precision, while reducing the need for on-site intervention.

Equipped with a gimbal integrating six components, including three visible-light cameras, an infrared thermal camera, a laser rangefinder, and a near-infrared laser illuminator, the Matrice 5TD combines high-resolution imaging, thermal analysis, and advanced detection capabilities. It is offered as a bundle with the DJI O4 Ground Station, which enhances its transmission link.

High-Precision Visible and Thermal Imaging

The DJI Matrice 5TD features three 50 MP visible-light cameras: a wide-angle camera, a medium telephoto camera, and a super-telephoto camera offering up to 176× hybrid zoom. This configuration allows operators to survey an entire area and then examine details at long range without moving the drone.

Its infrared thermal camera delivers a resolution of 1,280 × 1,024 pixels, with a super-resolution mode reaching 2,560 × 2,048 pixels. It can detect temperature variations and perform temperature measurements across a range of up to 550°C, depending on the mode used.

The laser rangefinder offers a measurement range of up to 3 km, while the near-infrared laser illuminator enhances observation capabilities in low-light conditions. These features make the Matrice 5TD particularly well suited to night operations, sensitive-site surveillance, and infrastructure inspection.

Advanced Detection for Safer Operations

The Matrice 5TD combines omnidirectional binocular vision, a 360° rotating LiDAR, a 3D infrared sensor, and integrated millimeter-wave radars. This system helps detect obstacles and ensure safer flight paths, even in complex environments.

The integrated RTK module improves positioning accuracy, while real-time terrain following facilitates missions over uneven terrain. Reception of ADS-B signals via DJI AirSense also provides alerts about nearby crewed aircraft.

Flight Endurance Designed for Automated Missions

With a maximum advertised flight time of 59 minutes and wind resistance of up to 12 m/s, the DJI Matrice 5TD is designed for extended missions. Its IP55 protection rating supports operation in demanding environments, within the operating conditions specified by DJI.

When paired with the DJI Dock 4, it becomes part of an automated deployment solution that enables flight planning, retrieval of collected data, and remote mission monitoring. The docking station also automatically swaps the battery to minimise downtime between missions.

Enhanced Connectivity and Intelligent Data Analysis

The DJI O4 Ground Station provides the transmission link between the drone and the control system. The Matrice 5TD also features built-in 4G modules, eliminating the need for an external dongle, subject to service availability in the country of operation.

Thanks to its onboard AI capabilities, the drone can recognize up to 17 types of targets in real time, including people, vehicles, and animals. When paired with DJI FlightHub 2, it facilitates mission monitoring, comparison of observations across multiple flights, and analysis of changes at a site.

A Configuration Designed to Meet European Regulatory Requirements

In Europe, the DJI Matrice 5TD falls under C6 class when used with the DJI Dock 4, and C5 class when equipped with the DJI AP1 parachute system, depending on the configuration. The system also integrates a Flight Termination System (FTS) and operational volume limitation functions.

These features contribute to operational safety but do not replace the regulatory requirements applicable to each mission. Operations must be planned in accordance with the relevant operational scenario and the manufacturer’s operating conditions.
